Ideas for Textiles from the Celtic Heritage Is based on Celtic Inspiration, with projects for quilts, hangings, panels, bags and other objects. It was published in 2005. I have drawn on a wide range of techniques from quiltmaking and embroidery to develop projects that are graded in difficulty so that there is something for everyone. There is background information and lots of designs that can be copied.

| British Patchwork and Quilting Magazine made it ‘Reviewers Choice' |
Barbara Howell is well known in the UK as a teacher and quilter who regularly contributes to national and local exhibitions. Describing herself as ‘an embroiderer who makes quilts Barbara combines various techniques to create richly coloured and textured surfaces in her unique pieces of work. With a specialist interest in Celtic imagery the pages of this book open the door to this fascinating design source. Included are photographs and line drawings taken from Celtic sculpture, appearing on crosses, jewellery, calligraphy etc. and advice on the basic principles of design such as the successful use of colour, tone, shape, form, pattern, texture, line and balance. Projects include quilts, bags, wall hangings, cushions and even a fabric covered waste bin. A gallery in colour shows examples of Celtic inspired work by Howell and other quilters. Although this is a fairly modest production, the expertise of the author is evident and, as one of our ‘home grown' quilters, we have chosen this book as our ‘Reviewers Choice this month. |
